Five killed as vehicle plunges into Chenab River in Kishtwar

At least five people died after a Mahindra Scorpio skidded off the road and plunged into the Chenab River in the Dachhan area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred around 10:45 am at Yainwan in Dangdaroo while the vehicle was traveling from Dangdaroo toward Sounder. Preliminary reports indicate the vehicle lost control, veered off the road, and rolled down a steep slope into the river.

Police from the Dachhan Police Station, assisted by local residents and rescue teams, launched an operation to recover victims. Rescuers faced significant challenges due to the difficult terrain and the river's current. While five bodies have been recovered, authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of occupants in the vehicle, leading to concerns that more victims may be missing.
