Five killed in Mozambique EN1 highway crash near Chiluvane
Five people were killed and two were lightly injured in a multi‑vehicle collision on the EN1 highway near Chiluvane in Gaza province, Mozambique, on Saturday night. The crash began when a passenger car travelling from Chongoene to Xai‑Xai entered the opposite lane and struck a minibus head‑on. An articulated truck then collided with a second light vehicle and subsequently ran over passengers exiting the minibus. Preliminary investigations by the National Institute of Road Transport (INATRO), the Mozambique Republic Police (PRM) and provincial inspection teams identified the illegal lane change and the driver’s alleged alcohol consumption as primary causes. The driver of the articulated truck was detained for further inquiry.
