Five Men Charged Over Racist Chants at Marboz Feria in France
Five men aged 22 to 27 were prosecuted for public insult and provocation to discrimination after chanting racist slogans at the Marboz feria in the Ain department. A video of the chant, which repeats "Et on s'en fout, on n'aime pas les bougnoules," was viewed around five million times online.
Seven people were initially detained; two were released. The five accused will appear before the prosecutor’s delegate in mid‑August and may receive a penal warning with a mandatory citizenship‑training program at the Maison du mémorial de la maison d'Izieu. They also face charges of copyright infringement for altering the song. The mayor of Marboz and the prefect of Ain reported the incident, and the local branch of LICRA filed a complaint. All five have no prior criminal record and have expressed remorse in a letter to the municipality.
