Hangu district police checkpoint attack kills dozens

On July 30 2026 militants assaulted the Khazina Banda police checkpost in Hangu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The raid killed at least seven police officers, including a deputy superintendent, and injured between 22 and 28 others. In the ensuing clash eight to fifteen militants were killed and several were wounded.

Authorities launched a clearance operation after the attack. No group immediately claimed responsibility, but officials said the Tehreek‑e‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is the likely perpetrator. The assault followed a deadly checkpoint attack in Tank district a few days earlier that left 15 people dead.

The militants used quadcopter‑borne explosives and small‑arms fire, and the fighting lasted several hours before police forces regained control of the post.
