Agostina Vega femicide case expands with detention, hidden letter and autopsy findings

Investigators in Córdoba have detained Osvaldo Fassetta, a 47‑year‑old friend of primary suspect Claudio Barrelier, on charges of aggravated concealment in the femicide of 14‑year‑old Agostina Vega. Fassetta told police he was present at a birthday gathering the night of the disappearance and later helped search for the girl after her mother reported her missing. His background includes a 2019 homicide case involving his daughter.

A handwritten note recovered from a drawer of Agostina’s underwear was handed to prosecutors. The letter, found by her maternal grandmother Elizabeth Heredia, details personal struggles and questions why “she was mistreated all her life,” hinting at possible family violence.

The forensic report describes the recovered body as partially incinerated, semi‑buried and showing severe visceral damage, hampering certain analyses such as DNA swabs for sexual assault evidence.

Agostina’s funeral was conducted privately with strict security, following a large Ni Una Menos protest that drew over 100,000 participants demanding justice. The investigation continues to piece together her final movements, the role of Barrelier, and unanswered questions two weeks after her disappearance.
