National Guard Captain dies in suspicious shooting in Michoacán
Authorities in Michoacán are investigating the death of Adán Vázquez Contreras, a Second Captain of the National Guard, following a shooting incident on the Aquila-Tepalcatepec highway.
Vázquez Contreras was being transported in a military convoy to the 43rd Military Zone Hospital in Apatzingán to receive treatment for injuries sustained in a previous traffic accident. During the transfer, the convoy stopped on the roadside to perform security maneuvers, leaving the captain inside the vehicle due to his medical condition.
Following several gunshots, security elements initially believed they were under attack from the surrounding brush and returned fire. However, upon inspecting the vehicle, they discovered that the bullet holes in the bodywork originated from inside the unit. A 5.56mm assault rifle was recovered at the scene near the victim. The Michoacán State Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the death.
