Five tourists dead after being swept away at Himchari beach
The death toll has risen to five following a tragic incident at Himchari beach in Cox’s Bazar, where tourists were swept away by strong tidal currents. The victims include three individuals from Dhaka—Md Borhan, Saiful Islam, and Nafisul Haque—and two others whose bodies have since been recovered: Harun, 20, from Chattogram, and SM Nafisur Rahman Nibir, 23, a student from Dhaka.
The incident began when a group of tourists entered the sea near the Himchari Museum. After one individual was swept away, several others attempted rescue efforts, including forming a human chain. Despite interventions by lifeguards, locals, and fellow travelers, the strong waves resulted in multiple fatalities.
Local authorities and search teams have confirmed the recovery of the missing bodies. While rescue operations have concluded for the identified deceased, officials noted the challenges of monitoring the vast coastline with available lifeguard personnel.
