Captain assaulted during vehicle loading at Costa Argolidas
A ship captain was seriously injured during a violent assault while loading vehicles onto a ferry at the port of Costa Argolidas on Sunday, October 18. The vessel was preparing for its scheduled route to Spetses.
According to the Portocheli Port Authority, the captain was found on the deck with visible facial injuries. He was treated by emergency services and transported to Nafplio General Hospital for further medical care. The Panhellenic Union of Merchant Navy Captains (PEPEN) condemned the incident, describing it as a “shameful, mafia-style attack” carried out by truck drivers and their associates.
Five local truck drivers were arrested by maritime authorities. They face charges including disruption of communications, dangerous physical harm, and conspiracy under the Greek Penal Code. The drivers involved were aged 25, 51, 52, and 55. Following the incident, the injured captain was replaced, and the ferry completed its journey to Spetses.
