Fjarðabyggð celebrates 35 years of twinning with Gravelines
Representatives from Fjarðabyggð participated in the Icelandic Days festival held in Gravelines, France, from September 25 to 27. The event celebrated the 35-year town twinning relationship between Fáskrúðsfjörður and Gravelines.
The festival program included exhibitions regarding the twin towns and the memory of sailors, a traditional market, maritime-themed storytelling and songs, and parades in historical costumes. A shield was unveiled to commemorate the partnership, and a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the sailors' memorial in Les Huttes.
Local officials, including Fjarðabyggð town council chairman Ragnar Sigurðsson and council member Stefán Þór Eysteinsson, attended the festivities. The visit also included a banquet and discussions regarding the future of the twinning cooperation.
