FK Csikszereda seeks Romanian government aid after Hungarian funding cut

The Hungarian change of government, with Peter Magyar replacing Viktor Orbán as prime minister, has put the future of Hungarian financing for the Romanian club FK Csikszereda in doubt. The club, which President Zoltan Szondi says "values approximately 20 million euros even without a stadium or players" because of its academy and infrastructure, has historically received about €50 million over four years under Orbán’s tenure.

Facing the possible loss of Budapest’s support, Szondi has asked the Romanian government to step in. He cites a joint programme drafted by the Romanian Football Federation and the state that would allocate €1 million annually to the country's principal football academies, including Csikszereda’s. The related government decree is currently stalled by political changes in Bucharest, and the club is counting on backing from the Hungarian minority party UDMR to revive the funding plan.
