FKA Twigs to star in Joséphine Baker biopic

A biographical film about the Franco-American icon Joséphine Baker is set to begin filming in the autumn of 2026. Directed by Maïmouna Doucouré, the project will feature British artist FKA Twigs in the lead role.

The film will utilize a fragmented narrative, beginning in 1951 in Miami before exploring Baker’s life from her childhood in Saint Louis, USA, to her arrival in Paris, her involvement in the Resistance, and her fight against racism.

Filming locations include Paris, Hungary, and the Dordogne region in France. Specifically, scenes will be shot near the Château des Milandes to depict the ‘Rainbow Tribe,’ the twelve children Baker adopted with Jo Bouillon. The production is led by StudioCanal and Bien ou Bien Productions.
