Flaco López remains sole Brazilian Serie A player in World Cup quarter‑finals

Following Colombia’s loss to Switzerland in the World Cup round of 16, only one player from Brazil’s top league is still competing in the tournament. Argentine forward Flaco López, who plays for Palmeiras, is the sole Serie A representative as the competition moves into the quarter‑final stage.

A total of 32 players from Brazil’s Serie A have taken part in this World Cup, a record compared with the 27 who featured in 1974. Flamengo contributed the most with nine call‑ups, followed by Palmeiras with seven. Other clubs represented include Atlético‑MG (four), Grêmio and Internacional (two each), and a single player each from Corinthians, Santos, São Paulo, Red Bull Bragantino, Botafogo, Fluminense, Vasco and Athletico‑PR. The distribution of players by national team shows Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay each with seven Serie A athletes, while Ecuador had five, and Colombia, the Netherlands and Argentina each had one.
