Flai Cgil calls for major revision of EU fisheries policy
The Flai Cgil trade union has called for a profound revision of the European Union’s Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) following a recent European Parliament resolution. The union argues that the current framework, established in 2013, is outdated and fails to address modern economic, environmental, and geopolitical realities.
Key issues identified by the union include the deterioration of fish stocks, rising operational costs, an aging workforce, and increasing pressure from imported products. Flai Cgil is advocating for a management system based on more consistent scientific data and improved coordination between European institutions to balance marine resource protection with job security and profitability.
Additionally, the union is pushing for the modernization of the fishing fleet. They are requesting easier access to European funding to improve vessel safety, working conditions, energy efficiency, and the decarbonization process.
