Flamenco artists Israel Galván and María Pagés debut new works in Spain

Prominent flamenco artists are presenting new works in Spain. Israel Galván will premiere ‘Bolero de Blanco y Negro’ at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla at the Teatro de la Maestranza. The performance reinterprets Maurice Ravel’s ‘Bolero’ through a flamenco lens, utilizing two pianos, percussion, and vocals to create a more percussive and organic sound. The production features a collaboration with singer Juan José Amador and explores the intersection of classical composition and folk roots.

Meanwhile, dancer María Pagés is premiering ‘Bilbao Square’ at Centro Danza Matadero. The performance serves as an autobiographical exploration, reflecting on her move from Seville to Madrid at age 15. Directed by El Arbi El Harti, the piece uses personal history and family lineage to transform the concept of a city square into a cultural agora, examining the small moments and memories that shape an artist's identity.
