Flamenco festivals announced in Washington, D.C. and Spain

The 22nd edition of the Fuego Flamenco International Festival is scheduled to take place at the Teatro GALA in Washington, D.C., from November 5 to 22. The festival features a mix of traditional and contemporary flamenco, beginning with ‘La velada’ by Spanish artist Marta Gálvez. Other highlights include the world premiere of ‘Entre dos sombras’ by the Flamenco Aparicio Dance Company and the D.C. premiere of ‘Danzas solemnes’ by Cristina Cazorla.

In Spain, the Ciutat Flamenco festival at the Taller de Músics runs from November 16 to 25, highlighting Catalan flamenco talent. A featured performance, ‘Dansat con Guacamayo’, is presented by dancer José Maldonado, whose work explores the intersection of dance and painting through a concept inspired by a dream of being a macaw.
