Flamengo and River Plate draw 2-2 in friendly in Portugal

Flamengo and River Plate played a 2-2 draw at Estádio Algarve in Portugal on 3 July 2026. The match marked their first meeting since Flamengo won the 2019 Libertadores final. Flamengo, coached by Leonardo Jardim, fielded a full squad despite nine players being away on World Cup duty. River opened the scoring in the 6th minute, but Flamengo equalised through Samuel Lino in the 30th. Bruno Henrique gave Flamengo the lead two minutes later, before Driussi restored parity for River in the 37th minute. The friendly featured unlimited substitutions. Flamengo will continue its European inter‑season tour with games against Lausanne (Switzerland) on 8 July and Benfica (Portugal) on 11 July.
