Flamengo and River Plate to face off in Algarve Trophy pre-season tournament
Brazilian club Flamengo announced a 27‑player squad for an inter‑season camp in Portugal, where it will take part in the Algarve Trophy—its first appearance in the 25‑year‑old competition and the first for any club from the Americas. The team will spend about two weeks training in Lagos and Estoi, playing three friendly matches: against River Plate on 3 July, Lausanne‑Sport on 8 July and Benfica on 11 July, all at Estádio Algarve.
Argentine giants River Plate also confirmed a trip to the Algarve for a friendly versus Flamengo on 3 July. The match is presented as both a sporting contest and a showcase for the club’s new project under coach Eduardo Coudet, while reinforcing historic ties with Portuguese side Benfica. River Plate’s visit is part of a broader European tour aimed at promoting its restructuring and deepening the long‑standing football relationship between the two clubs.
