Flamengo defeats Independiente del Valle 2-0 in Libertadores quarter-finals

Flamengo secured a 2-0 victory against Independiente del Valle in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals at the Olímpico Atahualpa stadium in Quito, Ecuador. Despite playing at an altitude of 2,850 meters, the Brazilian side overcame significant early pressure from the home team.

Independiente del Valle dominated the first half with 68% possession and ten attempts, including a shot by Carlos González that hit the post. However, Flamengo became more effective in the second half. Bruno Henrique opened the scoring in the 60th minute, followed by a header from Léo Pereira in the 74th minute to seal the win.

With this result, Flamengo holds a substantial advantage heading into the second leg at the Maracanã on September 17. The Brazilian club can afford a one-goal loss in the return match and still advance to the semi-finals. Independiente del Valle must win by two goals to force penalties or by three or more to qualify directly.
