Flamengo extends left‑back Alex Sandro's contract to 2027
Flamengo announced on 19 July 2026 that left‑back Alex Sandro has signed a new deal keeping him at the club until December 2027. The 35‑year‑old, who joined the team in August 2024, has made 78 appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists, and was part of eight title wins – two Carioca championships, a Copa do Brasil, a Supercopa Rei, a Libertadores, a Brasileirão, a FIFA Americas Derby and a FIFA Challenger Cup.
Alex Sandro, who was in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad but saw limited minutes, praised the club and his family’s adaptation to Rio, saying, “These two years were very special… I’m very happy to stay in this great club and keep fighting for titles.” Director of football José Boto highlighted his leadership, noting that “he is a reference for the squad, helps keep the group united and manages the toughest moments.” The renewal secures a veteran defender for Flamengo’s upcoming domestic and continental campaigns.
