Flamengo faces agent payment dispute as CBF steps in

Brazilian football agents, represented by the Associação Brasileira de Agentes de Futebol (ABAF), have asked the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to intervene in a payment dispute with Rio de Janeiro club Flamengo. The agents allege that the club has suspended commissions owed for player transactions and claim that Flamengo’s “reorganization financial” has led to delayed payments that should be reported to the newly created fair‑play financial system overseen by the Agência Nacional de Regulação e Sustentabilidade do Futebol (ANRESF).

Flamengo says it identified a need to renegotiate and re‑schedule certain commission payments up to the end of 2026, pushing pending amounts to 2027 without specifying a new timetable. The club’s president Luiz Eduardo Baptista defended the moves as necessary adjustments, noting the club’s historically strong financial position.

Agents have filed an official request with the CBF and have also taken the matter to court, seeking enforcement of contractual obligations. If the CBF rules against Flamengo, the club could face sanctions such as transfer bans or points deductions, which would affect its ability to compete in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and Copa Libertadores.
