Flamengo advances to Libertadores semifinals after draw with Independiente del Valle
Flamengo has advanced to the semifinals of the Conmebol Libertadores following a 1-1 draw against Independiente del Valle at the Maracanã. Having secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Quito, the Brazilian side progressed with a 3-1 aggregate score.
Independiente del Valle took an early lead in the first half through Djorkaeff Reasco following a defensive error. The match became increasingly difficult for Flamengo after midfielder Jorginho was sent off in the second half. However, Giorgian de Arrascaeta secured the necessary draw in the 38th minute of the second half, capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Aldair Quintana.
This result marks the fifth time in the tournament's history that three clubs from Brazil—Flamengo, Fluminense, and Palmeiras—have reached the semifinals simultaneously. Flamengo will face Estudiantes of Argentina in the next round, while Fluminense and Palmeiras compete in the other semifinal bracket.
