Flamengo faces potential melancholic end to 2026 season

Commentator Grafite has suggested that Flamengo may face a melancholic end to the 2026 season, even if the club secures the Campeonato Brasileiro title. Speaking on SporTV, the former player noted that Flamengo supporters possess a high standard of expectation that often extends beyond domestic league success.

Despite leading the Série A with 70 points—one point ahead of Palmeiras with six rounds remaining—the club has endured a difficult year. Earlier in the season, Flamengo lost the Supercopa do Brasil to Corinthians and the Recopa Sudamericana to Lanús. Their only major trophy thus far was the Campeonato Carioca, won in March against Fluminense.

Further setbacks included an exit from the Copa do Brasil following a loss to Vitória and a recent elimination from the Libertadores semifinals by Estudiantes on penalties. Off the pitch, the club's management has filed a formal complaint with Conmebol regarding the eligibility of Estudiantes defender Marcos Rojo, requesting a 3-0 victory by forfeit.
