Flamengo hit by financial loss from Brazil’s World Cup exit, adds friendly in Portugal

Flamengo will forgo about R$ 619,000 (roughly US$ 120,000) in FIFA daily payments after Brazil’s elimination in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. The club had four players – Léo Pereira, Danilo, Alex Sandro and Lucas Paquetá – on the Brazilian squad, and each would have earned around $5,000 per day while the tournament continued. The early exit ends those payments and will reduce Flamengo’s budget for the remainder of the season.

During the World Cup pause, Flamengo has scheduled a friendly against Swiss side Lausanne‑Sport in the Algarve region of Portugal. The match is set for Wednesday at 16:30 Brasília time and will be broadcast on Band, SporTV, Premiere and online platforms. The game gives the club an opportunity to keep players active while the domestic league is on hold.
