Flamengo launches Nação Legado to support former players

Flamengo has launched the ‘Nação Legado’ project, an initiative designed to preserve the club's history and provide financial assistance to former players facing economic vulnerability. The program will be supported by the Flamengo Legends, which is responsible for identifying athletes in need of aid.

Two notable beneficiaries confirmed for the program are Paulo Henrique, a 1960s defender who played in the 1966 World Cup, and Ubirajara Alcântara, a goalkeeper recognized for scoring the first goal by a goalkeeper in the club's history in 1970.

Funding for the project will be raised through a two-stage charity auction. The first stage is a digital auction open to fans, and the second is a benefit dinner and auction scheduled for October 30 at the Maracanã. In addition to supporting former players, the resources will also fund social initiatives such as the ‘Jogaremos Juntos’ project, which serves over 1,200 children.
