Flamengo may receive FIFA compensation for Arrascaeta injury
Flamengo may receive compensation from FIFA following a wrist fracture suffered by midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta while playing for the Uruguay national team during a match against South Korea.
The potential payout is facilitated through the ‘FIFA Club Protection Programme’, a mechanism designed to financially assist clubs when players are injured while on international duty. Because Arrascaeta is among the highest-paid players at Flamengo, the club could receive between 287,000 and 574,000 euros (approximately R$ 1.6 million to R$ 3.3 million). Under the program, daily payments can reach up to 20,500 euros, with coverage lasting up to 365 days.
To claim the indemnity, Flamengo must submit a request within 28 days of the injury. Arrascaeta is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, which will cause him to miss critical matches, including the Copa Libertadores semifinal against Estudiantes.
