Flamengo partners with Maricá to develop women's football

Brazilian club Flamengo announced the start of negotiations with the municipality of Maricá, Rio de Janeiro, to launch a joint initiative called “Flamengo Maricá.” The project will cover all age groups in women's football, with a focus on youth development and the modernization of sports infrastructure. Club president Luiz Eduardo Baptista (known as Bap) and Maricá mayor Washington Quaquá discussed the plan, aiming to combine Flamengo’s tradition of talent formation with the city’s public‑investment policies to expand opportunities for girls and young women.

The partnership follows Flamengo’s recent success in the under‑20 women's competitions, where it captured the Carioca, Copinha and Brazilian titles. The club’s senior women’s side is currently competing in the Brazilian Serie A1, the Copa do Brasil and the Carioca championship, seeking to qualify for the knockout stages. The joint venture is presented as a tool for social inclusion and community development, with the expectation that Maricá will become a key hub for women's football in Brazil.
