Flamengo player Danilo discusses son's support for rival Fluminense

Flamengo defender Danilo has shared details regarding a family rivalry involving his son’s football preferences. During an appearance on the GNT program ‘Papo de Segunda’, the 34-year-old player explained that while he is a devoted Flamengo supporter, his son has chosen to support their arch-rival, Fluminense.

Danilo attributed this choice to the influence of his son’s maternal family, noting that while most relatives are Flamengo fans, a group of ‘resistance’ supporters—including a great-grandfather, an uncle, and a cousin—all favor Fluminense. The player recounted his son’s intense emotional reaction upon learning he would be playing for Flamengo, noting the boy cried and refused to speak to him for a period.

Despite attempts to joke about the situation, Danilo stated that he respects his son’s decision, saying, “It is his choice, it is how he feels good.” Danilo joined Flamengo in 2025 following his time at Juventus and has made 19 appearances this season.
