Flamengo players discuss adaptation and league regulations

Flamengo players Joaquín Freitas and Saúl Ñíguez addressed recent developments and team integration during a press conference at Ninho do Urubu.

Joaquín Freitas, a 19-year-old Argentine attacker who joined the club in September, noted that the current break in the football calendar has been vital for his adaptation. He stated that the lack of matches has allowed him more time to train with his new teammates and prepare for the intense schedule ahead, which includes crucial competitions like the Brasileirão and Libertadores.

Midfielder Saúl Ñíguez expressed opposition to a proposed regulation that would reduce the number of foreign players allowed in the Brasileirão from eight to five between 2027 and 2030. Ñíguez argued that such a move could lower the overall quality of the Brazilian league, suggesting that Brazilian players should be selected based on skill rather than nationality to maintain competitive standards.
