Flamengo president Bap explains Filipe Luís dismissal and praises new coach Leonardo Jardim

Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, the president of Flamengo, said the decision to dismiss coach Filipe Luís was made before the team's 8‑0 defeat to Madureira and was not caused by that result. He stressed that the move was driven by the club’s poor performance in the Serie A, where Flamengo had the worst start of the season. Bap emphasized that such institutional decisions are his sole responsibility and denied any prior planning by the board.

Bap also praised the work of new coach Leonardo Jardim, appointed on 4 March, highlighting the tactical adjustment of Samuel Lino and the development of young players such as Johnny, Wallace Yan and Lorran. He quoted, “Quando eu vejo agora o que ele está fazendo com o Samuel Lino… Você vê a mão do treinador e fala: ‘que coisa bacana’.” Bap added that Filipe Luís remains a respected figure, saying he is “in the hall of great Flamengo coaches” and wishing him success at Monaco.
