Flamengo asks regulator to block Vasco SAF sale to Marcos Lamacchia

Flamengo petitioned the Agência Nacional de Regulação e Sustentabilidade do Futebol (ANRESF) to analyse and potentially veto the proposed sale of Vasco da Gama’s football‑club entity (SAF) to businessman Marcos Lamacchia. The club cited Section 9 of the Sistema de Sustentabilidade Financeira and article 62 of Brazil’s Lei Geral do Esporte, arguing that the deal creates a conflict of interest because Lamacchia is the son of José Lamacchia, husband of Palmeiras president Leila Pereira. This could give a single family influence over two clubs competing in the same national competition.

ANRESF had already requested clarification from Vasco and set a deadline for a response. Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista (the “Bap”) called the transaction “illegal” and said it could proceed only if Leila Pereira leaves Palmeiras or after her term ends in 2027. The agency’s final decision on whether to block the sale is pending. In a recent interview Lamacchia said, “quem quer pôr dinheiro lá (no Vasco) somos nós.”
