Flamengo retains Brazil's largest fan base, Datafolha survey shows

A Datafolha poll conducted on July 22‑23 with 2,004 respondents aged 16+ across 139 Brazilian municipalities found that 22 % of the population support Flamengo, keeping the club at the top of the national fan‑base ranking. Corinthians follows in second place with 14 %, while Palmeiras (7 %), São Paulo (6 %) and Cruzeiro (4 %) complete the top five.

The survey also revealed that another 22 % of Brazilians claim they do not follow any football team, a share that rises to 29 % among women and falls to 13 % among men. Regionally, Flamengo leads in the Northeast (29 %) and the combined Central‑West/North bloc (34 %). In the Southeast, Corinthians is numerically ahead (20 % vs. Flamengo’s 16 %) but the margin falls within the error range, making it a technical tie. In the South, Grêmio holds the lead with 20 %.

These figures continue a historical trend that began in 1993, when Flamengo first surpassed Corinthians in the Datafolha series, and underscore the club’s dominant position in Brazil’s football culture.
