Flamingo released at Tarquinia reserve after successful rehabilitation
A young flamingo has been released back into the wild at the Saline di Tarquinia State Nature Reserve following a successful rehabilitation process. The bird, which was born this year, was first discovered in an extremely debilitated state on the Fossacesia coast in Abruzzo on September 22 during its first migratory journey.
After being reported by a citizen, the flamingo was rescued and transferred to the Wildlife Animal Recovery Center (CRAS) in Pescara. Under the care of veterinarian Dr. Gianmaria Antonazzo, the bird received targeted medical treatment and spent its recovery period at the Lago di Penne Regional Nature Reserve and WWF Oasis. To prevent human imprinting and ensure its survival in the wild, the bird was kept in a semi-free environment where it could feed autonomously.
The final release was carried out at dawn by the Carabinieri Forestali Biodiversity Department of Rome, marking the conclusion of a coordinated effort between various biodiversity protection units.
