Flaminio Stadium project faces regulatory and financial hurdles

The redevelopment project for the Flaminio Stadium, led by SS Lazio president Claudio Lotito, is facing significant regulatory and financial hurdles. The Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma has issued conditional feedback with heavy prescriptions regarding the preservation of the original structure, specifically the iconic roof. These requirements may force a reduction in stadium capacity from approximately 50,000 to just over 41,000 seats to ensure the height does not exceed the adjacent Parco della Musica.

Financially, the project faces substantial pressure. Estimates suggest Lotito may need to secure at least 100 million euros in the coming months: 40-50 million euros for current operations and an additional 50 million euros to revise the stadium project following the Soprintendenza’s demands.

The project is currently awaiting the publication of the final report from the Preliminary Services Conference (CSP). If approved, the project must undergo a double vote to be declared of public interest, first by the municipal government and subsequently by the Capitoline Assembly. Once public interest is recognized, the technical team will move toward the Technical-Economic Feasibility Project (PFTE).
