Flanders heritage event to feature 890 locations in 2026

The 38th edition of Open Monumentendag will take place on September 13, 2026, featuring a record 890 locations across Flanders. Under the theme ‘In goede handen’ (In good hands), the event offers over 1,180 free activities to showcase regional heritage, ranging from industrial sites to historical residences.

Maritime highlights include a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of the nearly 100-year-old motor yacht Napoleon in Beerse, tours of the Rhine and Inland Navigation Museum to learn about historical life aboard ships, and visits to the West-Hinder III lightship.

Additionally, the Hegge Poederlee vzw is establishing a permanent exhibition at the Heggehuys to preserve the ‘Wonder van de Hegge’. This historical site, which involves documented events dating back to 1412, aims to pass local heritage and stories down to younger generations.
