Flash floods and landslide damage infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda and Kishtwar districts

Heavy rainfall in early July triggered flash floods and a massive landslide across Jammu and Kashmir's Chenab Valley. In Doda district, the town of Thathri experienced mud‑laden flows that partially damaged houses, shops and vehicles, and blocked the Doda‑Kishtwar highway. The same weather system caused a landslide near the under‑construction 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project in Kishtwar, burying several vehicles and damaging a stretch of road. No casualties were reported in either location.

District officials and the Union Minister’s office said response teams were deployed to clear debris, restore road connectivity and assess any impact on the hydropower project. The project’s infrastructure remained largely intact, and authorities urged residents to stay away from streams and landslide‑prone areas while clearance work continued.
