Flash floods cause widespread damage in Gilgit-Baltistan

Heavy rainfall and cloudburst-triggered flash floods have caused widespread disruption across the Gilgit-Baltistan region in Pakistan. The flooding has severely impacted the Ghizer and Hunza districts, damaging residential properties, agricultural land, and orchards. In Naubahar village, floodwaters specifically damaged the Gushgush Jamaat Khana along with various fruit trees and crops.

Infrastructure has sustained significant damage, including electricity transmission lines along the Immit-Barjangle route. Transportation has also been heavily affected; landslides completely blocked the Karakoram Highway between Sost and Khunjerab Top, though traffic has since resumed on the section between Murtazaabad and Hassanabad in Hunza. Authorities have advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel on affected routes while clearance work continues to restore road links and power services.
