Flash floods and landslides devastate Himalayan districts of Kargil and Kangra in India

Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods and landslides across Kargil district in the Union Territory of Ladakh, damaging homes, agricultural land, livestock and public infrastructure. Ladakh MP Mohammad Haneefa visited the affected villages, praised the work of the district administration, the State Disaster Response Force, the Border Roads Organisation and other agencies, and pledged assistance through the MP Local Area Development Scheme and additional government support for road restoration, water supply, electricity and compensation to families.

In Himachal Pradesh, a cloudburst struck Speda village in Kangra district, flattening four houses and rendering eight more uninhabitable. About 25 families were moved to a temporary relief camp, and the Deputy Commissioner ordered the relocation of the entire village due to unstable terrain. Local officials are conducting damage assessments and monitoring the hillside to prevent further incidents while initiating relief and rehabilitation measures.
