Flash floods in Doda, India damage homes, shops and block highway

Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in Thathri town of Doda district, Jammu, on Tuesday, causing mudslides, boulders and debris to sweep through the area. The floods partially damaged several houses, shops and a school, and buried or swept away vehicles along the road.

The Doda‑Kishtwar national highway (NH‑244) was blocked by debris but was reopened for one‑way traffic later on Tuesday and fully cleared for two‑way traffic by Wednesday. No loss of life was reported. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had called to inquire about the situation and the Centre had offered assistance. Local authorities deployed water tankers and worked to restore electricity and water supply.
