Flash floods in Jammu & Kashmir kill eight, damage power infrastructure

Heavy rains caused flash floods in Jammu & Kashmir's Rajouri district, washing away 15 electrical transformers and damaging about 200 others. The Power Development Department launched a war‑footed restoration drive, restoring electricity to several areas while crews and residents continue work to rebuild the network.

In the neighboring Poonch district, a cloudburst triggered landslides that buried a labourer's home in Murrah‑Bufliaz village, Surankote. Four family members were recovered dead, and four remain missing, bringing the total death toll to eight. Search and rescue teams from the SDRF, police, CRPF and civil administration were deployed, with officials urging more earth‑moving equipment to aid the effort. Residents were advised to stay indoors and avoid low‑lying riverbanks as the Chenab River swelled downstream.

Authorities continue to monitor river levels, issue safety advisories and coordinate relief operations across the affected districts.
