Flathub replaces AI ban with mandatory disclosure rules
Flathub has revised its policy regarding artificial intelligence, moving away from a blanket ban on applications developed with AI-generated content. Instead, the repository will now implement a mandatory disclosure requirement. Developers must specify which parts of their submission were created using AI and the extent of that usage.
The new guidelines distinguish between using AI as a tool for research, debugging, or discussion—which does not require reporting—and using AI to generate actual components of the application, such as code or documentation. While disclosure is required, the Flathub team retains the right to reject applications based on quality concerns or maintainability issues.
Strict limitations remain in place for technical files: Flathub manifests are still prohibited from containing any AI-generated or AI-assisted content, as these files dictate how applications are built and packaged. Additionally, AI agents and automated tools are forbidden from opening pull requests or generating commit messages, descriptions, and code review comments.
