Flavia Pennetta headlines Palermo tennis centenary event

To celebrate its centenary, the Circolo Tennis Palermo hosted the ‘Tennis in Piazza’ event in Palermo, Italy. Held in Piazza Ruggero Settimo near the Politeama, the event featured former US Open champion Flavia Pennetta as a special guest.

Approximately 200 young athletes, aged 5 to 16, participated in the event, playing alongside Pennetta and local officials. The initiative aimed to promote the sport and connect the club with the city. During the event, Palermo Mayor Roberto Lagalla presented Pennetta with a commemorative medal.

Pennetta reflected on her personal history with the city, noting her early experiences playing in Mondello. She also commented on the current state of Italian tennis, describing it as a ‘wonderful moment’ and emphasizing the importance of patience and enjoyment for young players.
