Flavien Prat and José Luis Ortiz set Breeders’ Cup Classic mounts

Jockeys Flavien Prat and José Luis Ortiz have finalized their riding assignments for the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland. Prat, a two-time Eclipse Award winner, will ride the undefeated Magnitude, a horse previously ridden by Ortiz. Prat will also maintain his mount on Golden Tempo, with whom he won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes earlier this year.

José Luis Ortiz remains in a tight statistical race with Prat for the season's top honors. As of early October, the two riders were nearly tied in victories, with Prat holding a slight edge in win percentage and top-three finishes. While Ortiz leads in total earnings produced in North America, both riders have surpassed $36 million in seasonal earnings. The upcoming Breeders’ Cup championships will be a decisive factor in determining the season's champion and the recipients of the Eclipse Awards.
