Flávio Bolsonaro pushes for CPMI into Banco Master amid scandal
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL‑RJ) has repeatedly called for the creation of a Mixed Parliamentary Inquiry (CPMI) to investigate Banco Master and its former owner Daniel Vorcaro. In a congressional session on 21 May, he said he has “nothing to hide” and urged that Vorcaro and ex‑partner Augusto Lima be summoned to explain any connections with him, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The demand follows the Federal Police’s Operation Compliance Zero, which led to Vorcaro’s arrest on suspicion of financial fraud and money‑laundering. Intercept Brazil published messages indicating that Vorcaro paid roughly R$ 61 million to finance a film titled “Dark Horse” about former President Jair Bolsonaro, a deal in which Flávio reportedly sought funding.
Opposition deputies have filed a mandado de segurança with the Supreme Court to compel Senate President Davi Alcolumbre to read the CPMI request, arguing that constitutional criteria for the inquiry are already met. The controversy has reignited divisions within the Bolsonaro family and their Liberal Party, with former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro distancing herself from her son’s campaign.
Polls show President Lula widening his lead over Flávio Bolsonaro, while the Supreme Court case remains pending and Justice Minister André Mendonça is slated to report on actions demanding the CPMI’s installation.
