Italian world No. 9 Flavio Cobolli said a persistent cough that has lasted three weeks affected his play at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal. He emphasized that the illness is not an excuse, noting that it hampers his breathing and recovery between points and has disrupted his sleep.

Cobolli was eliminated in the second round by Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann, who won 7‑6(5) 7‑6(2) after 2 hours 11 minutes of play.
