Flea markets in the Netherlands and Belgium draw record crowds

A flea market in Bakkeveen, the Netherlands, held on 1 August, reported its highest ever visitor numbers, causing traffic congestion and a rush for parking spaces. Organisers noted that bookings reached 600 by early evening and many attendees arrived on foot or bicycle.

In Mariakerke, Belgium, the inaugural Parkbazaar event in the former Kervyn d’Oudt Mooreghem castle grounds attracted more than 1,000 visitors within a few hours. The market, organised by Josip Rotsaert and Patrick Tacq, offered antiques, vintage items and live accordion music, and prompted planners to consider future summer and winter editions.

Both markets experienced unusually strong public interest, prompting local authorities and organisers to evaluate capacity and future scheduling.
