Fleet management: Renovation and leasing as alternatives to new vehicle purchases

Transport companies are increasingly adopting alternative fleet management strategies to manage rising investment costs and optimize capital. Combining trailer renovation and modernization with a ‘Sale & Leaseback’ model offers a way to extend the service life of existing assets while freeing up frozen capital.

Kristian Wundrack, Director of International Strategic Accounts at TIP Group, notes that if a trailer is at an appropriate stage of its life cycle, modernization combined with a sale and leaseback transaction can increase its end value and reduce future operating costs. This approach helps improve liquidity and provides more predictable costs compared to purchasing entirely new vehicles.

In the broader automotive sector, leasing remains a streamlined method for vehicle acquisition. By selecting specific financing parameters—such as down payments, contract duration, and buyout values—businesses can tailor their obligations to their specific budgetary needs and operational requirements.
