Flemish games sector reaches record 76.5 million euro turnover
The Flemish games sector reached a record turnover of 76.5 million euros in 2025, growing nearly 30 percent over the last two years. According to reports from the Flemish games industry, the number of active studios in Flanders has risen to 145, representing a 13 percent year-on-year increase. Despite this growth, industry representatives warn of structural challenges, including rising costs, high fiscal pressure in Belgium, and a lack of capital that hinders small studios from competing internationally.
In terms of consumer trends, approximately 6.3 million Belgians played video games in 2025, an increase of 100,000 from the previous year. Data indicates the average player is a 34.7-year-old male who plays nearly nine hours per week, primarily on consoles. While console and PC gaming remain predominantly male-dominated, smartphone gaming shows a more even split between genders. Additionally, parental oversight is increasing, with 83 percent of parents using parental controls to monitor their children's gaming experiences.
