Flemish media providers adopt uniform accessibility standards

Flemish media providers, including VRT, DPG Media, Play, Telenet, and Proximus Media House, have agreed to implement uniform accessibility logos. This standardization aims to clearly inform viewers about services such as closed captioning (CC), automatic closed captioning (ACC), audio description (AD), and Flemish Sign Language (VGT).

In journalism ethics, the Flemish Association of Journalists (VVJ) has raised concerns regarding the impartiality of journalists who undertake commercial assignments alongside their primary duties. VVJ Chair Kris Seyen noted that while earning extra income is not the issue, uncontrolled influence remains a concern.

A new environmental news barometer by QuotaClimat, supported by the Belgian Federal Public Service for Health and the CSA, analyzed 26 television and radio stations. The study found that environmental topics account for 5.1% of airtime in French-speaking media and 2.1% in Dutch-speaking media. The report noted that public and French-language media provide more coverage than radio, private, or Dutch-language outlets, though coverage often focuses on immediate issues like heatwaves rather than long-term solutions like insulation or greening.
