Flensburg Green Party discusses Nazi history memorial site

The Flensburg Green Party council faction has responded to an open letter regarding the planned Nazi history mediation center. While acknowledging the historical significance of the Norderhofenden 1 police building, the faction stated that the decision to use the library wing of the Deutsches Haus was based on practical implementation factors, including ownership, renovation costs, and long-term financing.

Katja Claussen, chair of the Green council faction, noted that the choice was not a rejection of the historical site but a pragmatic decision. Clemens Schmidt, the faction's cultural policy spokesperson, emphasized that municipal responsibility requires balancing historical conviction with actual feasibility. The party expressed hope that recent regional attention to the issue could help resolve outstanding questions regarding the project.
