Flensburg hosts series of democracy and civic engagement events

Flensburg is hosting a series of events focused on democracy and civic engagement throughout September and October 2026.

On October 2, the Long Night of Democracy will take place at the Flensburg City Hall. The program includes lectures by author Sabine Asgodom and DDR witness Siegfried Wittenburg, as well as opportunities for citizens to engage with local council members and various organizations. Additional activities include a theater performance regarding social participation at the Hans-Christiansen-Haus and a democracy-themed pub quiz.

Additionally, vhs Flensburg is offering free community programs. These include a dialogue evening titled ‘How are you doing in Flensburg?’ designed to facilitate respectful exchange among citizens, and a ‘Democracy Fitness’ workshop based on a Danish concept aimed at strengthening social cohesion and skills such as compromise and empathetic listening.
